“When you’re up against a trouble, meet it squarely face to face. Lift your chin, set your shoulders, plant your feet and take a brace. When it’s vain to try to dodge it, do the best that you can do. You may fail but you may conquer, SEE IT THRU! Black may be the clouds about you and your future may seem grim, but don’t let your nerves desert you. Keep yourself in fighting trim. If the worst is bound to happen spite of all that you can do, running from it will not save you, SEE IT THRU! Even hope may seem but futile, when with troubles you’re beset; but remember you are facing just what other men have met. You may fail but you may fall still fighting, don’t give up what err you do. Eyes front, head high to the finish; SEE IT THRU!!!! – by Edgar Albert Guest
That is one of my favorite poems that I learned and recited while pledging my fraternity, Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. I recite this poem often and try to apply it to my life. Yes you can read between the lines or the music and conclude that I too have adversity; and no I am not talking about my struggle as an independent artist trying to gain a big fan base and overall be discoverd to become a major artist. No, I am not talking about that. However, I am referring to real life situations that got a brother stressed out. Now, if you know me, you know that I don’t complain; in fact, I am reserved in sharing or revealing my feelings and what I go through. That is why I smile all the time; however, I must admit on this one I am waiting on this time to pass and to overcome my adversities…. Lord have mercy, y’ll pray for a brother please!
