King P (born Phillip Solomon Stewart in Miami. Fl.) is a Jamaican-rooted Hip Hop artist and multi instrumentalist residing in Los Angeles, California, who delivers an unmatched level of energy through his Dancehall flair. Phillip’s musical track record dates as far back as the early ‘90s when he was both singing in the school choir and playing the saxophone. By the time he was in high school (Miami Norland Senior High School), he picked up an entire array of seven plus instruments: drums, trumpet, clarinet, violin, keyboard, oboe, and all saxophone variations. He did so by his own choice having been forever fascinated with music as a form of expressing oneself.
As King P was pursuing a major in Elementary Education at Florida A&M University, his roommate turned out to be Kendall “Ken Jo” Johnson, later known for his major contributions to the Hip Hop genre and for being a Grammy award winning producer. Ken Jo believed in Phillip’s phenomenal talent and asked him to play the saxophone part for Woozy, the 8th track off Ludacris’s Release Therapy album (the project was awarded Best Rap Album by the Recording Academy in 2007). The collaboration set things in motion for Phillip to persevere as a musician on a most professional level, having landed the role of a lifetime in 2007 as Assistant Head Drum Major for Prince’s Superbowl XLI Halftime Show.
Continuing to perfect his sound and technical abilities while being influenced by the likes of Gerald Albright, Donald Hayes, and Kirk Whalum, King P went to record two professional Gospel albums, Stand and I Need You Now, both officially released in 2012, that prompted the artist to perform regularly and proceed to lay the foundation of a loyal fanbase that still streams the collective 20 songs to this day. King P’s newfound reputation and stellar public reception scored important live shows for the artist, such as the opening act at the Juneteenth Festival in Orlando, FL, featured talent at the New Music Mondays hosted by the Stankonia Studios, GA, special act at the Soul Beach Festival in Tampa, FL, performer at the Caribbean Festival, Peace in the Park Festival, Frenchtown Festival, all three in Tallahassee, FL, amongst the many significant headlined concerts.
King P then paired up with James Murphy (Boowie of the Wisemen Music Group) and brought Good Vibes to fruition, a professionally acclaimed Dancehall record and visual that has garnered over 150K views on YouTube in its first year since its release in 2019, and over 20k streams on Spotify. The music video was sponsored by a highly successful Kickstarter Campaign that raised $15k from fans, friends, and family. Good Vibes was awarded The Best World Music (and Best Choreography) by the California Music Video Awards Film Festival in February 2020.
During the pandemic, King P has crafted another extraordinarily entertaining music video, Put It On Repeat, which has amassed over 300k views on YouTube since August 2020, becoming, as a matter of fact, his top viewed video of all time. The record is especially unique since it features a much heavier, never-before-seen aggressive Hip Hop side of the multi-talented Phillip.
The artist and professional saxophone player is currently working on a featured film inspired by his upcoming song, Open The Door while continuing to grab his audience with new music videos like Slip N Slide (over 205k views), Top Notch (over 115k views) and Tonight We Party (a short-film music video premiering August 13th). Slip N Slide music video was filmed in Miami and is warmly received by his fans on streaming platforms and Top Notch music video filmed in Los Angeles is definitely an attention grabber! “I am heavily invested in the message my songs bring forward. I seek to attract a positively spirited audience like myself, thus the Good Vibes only. It is easy to let yourself be negatively influenced by the current state of the world. Me and my fans though, we’re seeing beyond that. We’re pulling happiness from inside ourselves,” shares King P.
